Client Blog: The Belfield’s memorable family Lapland adventure

I was recommended to Rachel by another client when she was feeling overwhelmed by the sheer number of options for a family trip to Lapland. Although we weren’t local to each other, a quick chat over Teams one evening was all it took for me to understand what they were looking for. Then I got to work crafting the most magical adventure possible!

We settled on a three-night itinerary at the authentic Aurora Cabins in Finnish Lapland, planned in partnership with Not In The Guidebooks. It was the perfect balance of wilderness, Arctic activities and, of course, the chance to meet Santa himself.

We had always talked about taking our daughter to Lapland to see Santa. It felt important to time it just right - while the magic was still alive for her, but she was old enough to remember it for years to come. At 8, it was the perfect age.

The resort was lovely - so peaceful and quiet, nestled in snowy woodland under amazing starry skies. The cabin was cosy and warm, and it felt really special to lie in bed and look up at the stars.

The activities were varied and well run: we visited a husky farm, met reindeer, had a reindeer sled ride and searched for the Northern Lights.

Since we went at the start of the season, there wasn’t as much snow as we’d hoped, so we couldn’t do a husky sled ride. Instead, we spent more time with these beautiful dogs and their owners, playing with them and learning about their lives. While meeting Santa was the highlight, we all loved our time with the huskies.

As for Santa, he exceeded all our expectations. The whole experience was even more magical than we had hoped. I couldn’t believe we had it all to ourselves, tucked away in the woods with just us, the elves and Santa. It felt so special!

We spent nearly three hours making cookies, toasting marshmallows, having snowball fights and playing hide-and-seek with the elves before they led us to Santa’s cabin. Our daughter loved every minute of it.

Sadly, the Northern Lights remained elusive, but Lapland and the wonderful memories we created will stay with us forever. It was a true once-in-a-lifetime adventure.

The choices of visiting Lapland were overwhelming, so it was such a relief to simply tell Sarah what we wanted from our trip and let her take care of the rest. She did all the research and came back with a selection of options to choose from. After that, every detail was handled - from booking to checking us in and even mailing our boarding passes.

It was the most hassle-free holiday I’ve ever had. After years of self-organised holidays, I’ve remembered the value of a really good travel agent. Why try to figure it all out yourself when you can trust an expert?
