Client Blog: Neville's special birthday tour of Italy

I was recently recommended to Jayne, who wanted to arrange a special Italian holiday to celebrate Nev's 60th birthday. I was excited for them and happy to help...

Having never been to Italy, it was the perfect opportunity to do something memorable for Nev's special birthday.

We liked the idea of seeing a few places and travelling by train rather than braving the crazy Italian roads, so were delighted with the itinerary Sarah crafted for us, including sorting all the train tickets.

Our first stop was Rome, which although a beautiful city with stunning architecture, we sadly found rather dirty. The main tourist attractions were very busy, so it's essential to plan in advance or be flexible to enjoy the city at its best.

We loved the Hotel Canada which was a great choice, with friendly staff, including the fabulous barman Massimo. It's in a perfect location with many of the main sights within walking distance; it's also close to the train station, so ideal for our onward journey to Florence.

Florence is a beautiful city with the 'wow factor' and a great base to explore this gorgeous part of Italy. The Hotel Corona d'Italia was in an excellent location, essential when there is so much to see and do.

We visited Pisa and the spa town Monte Catini, both are just an hour from the city by train, so ideal day trips.

Onwards to Lake Garda via a quick change of train in Verona, and from the moment we arrived, we wished we could've stayed longer. We loved both places so much and hope one day to return and see more of them.

Hotel Nazionale in Desenzano del Garda was beautiful. The staff made us feel extra special and the bottle of fizz to celebrate Nev's birthday was a lovely touch.

Another super location, just a short walk from the many bars, restaurants, and the ferry terminal, perfect for exploring the lake and beyond.

Nev is a big Grand Prix fan but sadly our dates hadn't coincided with the Italian leg in Monza. However, fortune was smiling on us with the 1000 Miglia race passing through Verona the day after we arrived - so the day was spent happily engaged in the more sedate vintage car race - a perfect way to end this unmissable adventure.

Sarah, you are amazing at what you do, and we would never have been able to pull this trip together without your help. Everything was brilliantly organised, enabling us to have a fantastic time. Thank you.

Jayne
