I first travelled with Sarah a few years ago when she arranged a wonderful trip to Fiji for me to meet up with my daughter during her travels Down Under. She picked the perfect hotel back then, so I knew I could trust her to find something special for me again.
This time, I wanted an easy, relaxing holiday with the option to join in activities if I felt like it.
Initially, I was thinking of Greece or somewhere in the Mediterranean, but I was thrilled when Sarah suggested St Lucia. I’ve always loved the Caribbean, and StolenTime by Rendezvous turned out to be the perfect choice - an adults-only resort with a stunning beach and lush garden views from my balcony.
The food was incredible, especially the Caribbean dishes. My absolute favourite was the curried goat - it just melted in my mouth. I even took part in a fun cookery class where we made local favourites like St Lucian accras (fish cakes) with spicy mayo, grilled chicken with mango and chadon beni salsa, and sautéed eggplant and pumpkin. Everything was delicious.
The service at the hotel was exceptional. As a solo traveller, I was made to feel very comfortable. Every morning, a waiter would bring me ice-cold water and my cranberry and orange juice as soon as I settled on my sunbed. A special touch was having my bed turned down every evening - small details like this really made the stay memorable.
It was my first visit to the hotel, but I heard that repeat guests are treated to a special dinner with the manager, which sounded like a lovely gesture.
My only regret? Not staying longer than a week! Just as I began to fully unwind, it was time to pack up. I would definitely return to St Lucia - the island is beautiful, with breathtaking scenery and incredibly friendly people.
The most magical moment of the trip happened on my last evening when a turtle came onto the beach, laid its eggs, and returned to the sea. It was a completely unexpected and incredible experience - such a special way to end the holiday.
